AR 15 Stock Removal

I've watched the videos and I've tried to pull down on the release to remove my M4 collapsible stock and am having no luck. I've done it on another AR, so I know that it should work, but for some reason it doesn't. I have a Bushmaster XMS2. Do I need to remove the roll pin and take the whole thing out to remove the butt stock?

Don't know about the model you own. The roll pin lifts higher using finger/thumb to raise it, vs the lever. It then clears the last slot. The Magpul works that way.
