Mossy 590, longer replacement barrel?

I bought a 20" 590A1 with the ghost rings last year, looking to do some turkey/dove/quail/duck hunting and I am too cheap to buy a totally new shotgun. Is there a longer barrel out there for it that I can swap out? Will it take 500 barrels?

The 500 barrel system is different.
The barrels attach to the end of the mag tube with a large screw, instead of sliding over it.
A 590 barrel slides over the mag tube and is held in place with an end cap, like a Remington.
The advantage to the 590 system is that mag extensions can be added.

I don't understand why they don't make different barrels for it, I have a 590A1 with an 18.5" and I would love to just toss on a 26" barrel or so for skeet shooting. It only makes sense, right?

Stuck in the back of my head is that 835 barrels fit. I'm not sure if they do or not, but remember reading it somewhere.

Give Mossberg a call. They should be able to help.

Swap the magazine tube for one from a 500 and you can use any 500 barrel you want.

The Maverick 88 barrel for the 8 shot "500" might work. Call Mossberg about it.

It uses a closed end magazine tube like the 500 and won't work on the 590.

Giving Mossberg a call is probably the best course of action.

I'm not quite sure why someone would buy a dedicated, dyed in the wool defense shotgun like a 590A1 and then want to shoot skeet with it. If you want one gun that does it all, get a 500 combo with an 18.5 and 28" barrels.

In the unlikely event there is a general purpose barrel for a 590, it would probably cost as much or more than a good used 500 with a 28" barrel.

The 835 barrels work with the 5 shot magazine tube, as mentioned i believe you can get a 500 mag tube and barrel. But call mossberg to be certain.

Yes, offering field barrels for the 590 series is a product area on which Mossberg does not want to make money!
