Remington 870 police guns???

I've decided I need a new 870 shotgun. Remington apparently doesn't want to sell Police guns to us civilians. How tough is it to get one.

Also, is the Police synthetic stock and fore end the same as the 870 Express?

I have seen them in a few stores. Prices range from $400 to $500. The $500 model was the folder. I have seen the Express HD that comes with the 7 round extension for about $280. I not know if this is a factory version or if a distributor modified them. I had been looking at the Police version but decided it wasn't worth the extra $$. Then a new Wichester 1300 Defender with wood stocks fell into my lap unexpectedly and followed me home.

The forend on the police version is different (shorter) than the Express. A 6 round side saddle doesn't work with the express unless you shorten the forearm or replace it. Tac Star makes a 4 round side saddle that needs no mods.

A decent FFL shouldn't have any trouble. There ought to be one or more FA on http://www.auctionarms.com or http://www.gunbroker.com if you can't find a decent FFL.
