Obtaining a Class III permit in AZ

Just out of curiosity what is required to get a class III permit so I can get an M-16 or something equivalent. I bought myself and AR-15 for my 18th birthday and for my 19th I think I want to go a step up. Appreciate the info.

You find a seller, make the deal, fill out the Form 4, get it approved by your local chief law enforcement officer (CLEO), and send the feds the signed form and a check for $200. If your record is clean, no problem. M16s and selective fire AR-15s are a bit hard to come by and expensive, but are available.

AFAIK, AZ is a Class III friendly state, but some CLEOs refuse to sign the Form 4 on general principles. I suggest finding a local Class III dealer who can help you. However, on a purely intrastate (within a state) transaction, a dealer is not needed unless state or local law requires it. An individual can submit the Form 4.

MDL,

You also have to be 21.

Boy did I blow that one! Sorry, no Class III until you are 21. Of course it says that on the Form, but I should have made it clear.

And you forgot to mention the $5000 to $6000 that it will cost to get into the game.
