1858 navy

An Uberti 1858 Navy has come up for sale in my area. Last time I looked at an 1858 Navy, many years ago, they had 6.5" barrels. The seller says his has a 7.5" barrel and has only one shooting session under its belt. Does anyone have any experience with this shooter, and is $225 out of line?

sal...

I always thought the most frequently observed barrel was 7.5 but I don't know for sure. I think it is still true that the term "Navy" refers not to the model (of which the 6.5 inch barrel might be peculiar) but to the caliber.

I would say that 225.00 is quite a good price for that pistol. Because of the rarity, I think a quick decision (not always a wise option) might be in order. If this piece is up for public sale, it might go quick.

Uberti 58 navy barrels are 7 3/8. If its in good shape 225 is a decent price. Not a steal but decent.

The gun in question is modelled after the real New Model Navy of 1863. The 6-1/2" barrelled guns by Pietta are technically inaccurate reproductions of the New Model Belt revolver. The frames of the NMB were smaller than the Army and Navy but still were .36 caliber and six shots. For economies sake, Pietta makes it on the one frame and calls it the Navy, Police and Belt, whatever.
