Savage 110 Bolt Head Allignment Slot

I am getting ready to reassemble my new bolt head, spring, friction washer and retaining pin to my old bolt. The old bolt has an alignment pin that alugns the old bolt hed. Newer bolts do not have this feature. I have read where people are milling the pin out of the bolt to fit the new head without a slot. I could do either but eliminating the pin is probably easier. Do I need it or not? What say you Mr. Smith?

Do you mean the large pin that holds the head to the bolt?

Otherwise i know of no other pin.

There is a raised "ridge" on part of the bolt head that aligns it in the receiver.

It doesn't matter any more. I had it machined.
