The P250 - The Ultimate Pistol

I was looking for a new pistol. Tried out a few tactical sized glocks and XDs. However, I think I found the ultimate pistol which is the full-sized P250 in .45. The barrel on these things is longer then on the other Sig models for greater accuracy and speed of the bullet. Lighter then other Sigs. What impresses me most is they increased capacity on the .45 by 2 rounds versus other models which only hold 8.

Another feature is buying one of their kits to convert the full-size down to sub-compact for carrying.

I shot one of these a few weeks ago. I was actually impressed by the DAO trigger. It felt light and smooth.

I have one in 9mm. While I like the gun, and thought about buying the 357SIG conversions when they finally come out, the more I thought about it, I'll just get another complete gun if I do. The cost of the conversion isnt all that cheap, and for a little more. I can have two guns instead of one with a lot of extra parts.

Most other things that I've had that were convertible, usually ended up in the configuration I liked best, and never got changed again, so for me, it was a waste, and I see that happening with the P250 too if I were to go that route.

I also bought spare .40 barrels for a few of my other SIG's, and other than trying them out to make sure they functioned, there they sit, on top of a couple of cases of .40 I bought to go along with them. Yea, I have them if I need them, but if I add up what I got in them, its pretty much another gun.

As far as the P250's trigger goes, I like it, and I've never had any troubles with it. I think its a very nice DA trigger, and similar to the DA triggers on my other SIG's, just lighter.

My only real complaints with the P250 are, the night sights need white rings around the vials on the rear sight, and the slide stop is a little over sensitive, or at least on my gun it is. You really have to make sure your right thumb is off and away from the frame, or your going to continually find the slide closing on an empty mag. Its not an uncommon thing for those not familar with SIG pistols in general, and more a function of your grip, but the P250 seems to be more prone to it. The ambi lever doesnt help either, and your trigger finger can come into play here too.

John, I read the neagative press, but I also read the positive side too.

I have a bunch of Sigs, so I thought I would give this one a try. I went down to the LGS and checked one out. I took a snap cap with me so I could really check out the trigger. I don't have any problems with the trigger, so I bought it. I got the Compact 45 model. This is a really nice pistol.

I sent 175 rounds of WWB as well as WWB JHP's down range. I shot fast, slow, sideways and upside down just to check it out and it was flawless.

The only range lengths available for me that day was 3 and 7 yards. This gun is as accurate as all my other Sigs, which are dead on.

I like my 1911's but where else can you find a 45 that is accurate, light weight holds nine in the mag and one in the pipe and works great for CCW?

I like the P250.

OK so I saw this post and since as of Tuesday last week I'm a proud new owner of a Compact SIG P250 in .45acp

Now I REALLY wanted to hate this SIG!!!...I REALLY did...BUT!!! there is absolutely NOTHING for me to hate. Being an owner of a P226 Elite Platinum with a DA/SA trigger system (that i loved for so long) I really thought I'd hate the DAO system but it's even WAY smoother of a pull then the DA/SA. I almost wish I had purchased the P250 a long time ago but pride and ignorance blocked the rational thinking portion of my brain LOL

So I've put 250 rounds down range on day one with absolutely NO problems (didn't expect any) I already have 100 more rounds purchased and making a second run to the range again on Tuesday. I'm STILL very impressed at how smooth the 250 fires...and doesn't even feel like a .45...my Kimber puts a hurtin' on my wrist...after only 50 rounds of Kimber I can feel the soreness...but NOT with the SIG

Also having the ability to swap grip modules (hopefully "new" style grips) and caliber kits (when available) allows a user to go from full size .45 to Sub compact 9mm in minutes with the same fire control unit.

SIG really thought "outside the box" on this guy and deserves praise...although some may not agree and they are certainly entitled to their own opinion...If one does not hold, molest, fondle, grope or fire a P250 for themselves...then you are most definitely missing out

just a little SIGporn as well

I have a Comp[act and a new Sub Compact. Both are complete guns as I couldn't stand to wait for the Sub Compact kits to come out. Absolutely love the 250 platform! Great trigger and easy to hit with for me. I may be in the minority as I really enjoy revolver shooting and the Sig DAO is like the sweetest DA trigger pull I have ever had. It is heavy enough to be a deliberate pull for safety but nice enough to put the bullet holes right next to eachother. I have always had a hard time transitioning from DA to SA on DA pistols so I like a single SA or DA style gun. 1911s,revolvers, Glocks, and now my Sigs are all easy to shoot for me. Next one is gonna be a full size in 9mm or 45ACP.

I ended up buying one after my first post. That is how impressed I was with the trigger. I know some people bag on the DAO, but the trigger is what I couldn't get out of my head. Very light and smooth, unlike any other semi-auto trigger I've felt. I had to have one. It has never malfunctioned for me and is extremely accurate. I was jokingly shooting my XDm at a 4" plate from about 45-50 yards. I hit 1 out of 5 times. I was shocked when I went 4 out of 5 with the Sig. I'm a good shooter, but not great. The gun made me look spectacular in front of range staff!

im the same way as some others. i like the 250 design, but if i was looking to convert the pistol, i would just use that as an excuse to purchase another gun

I bought the first one I saw, here in the Seattle area. It is in .40.

The trigger sold itself to me. I like firing DA revolvers and this was a good as my best ones.

It also fit my hand very well. Now I see the extra parts are available to build it bigger and build it smaller. Temptation is breathing down my neck and his breath is warm, very warm.

After shooting the 250 for the first time I didn't even care that it can switch frames and calibers, although a bonus. I couldn't quit thinking about that trigger. I was actually excited to get back to the range and try it again.

My take is that the 9mm P250 I handled at the fun store was freakin' huge, even for a full size duty rig. Bigger than a 226, bigger than a Beretta 92FS.

I have yet to see a compact framed one though.

All I've ever seen have been the compacts in 9mm and 40. The others are quite the rarity around here.

The P250C itself isnt small, and is basically the same size as the P229. Both are really full size pistols, even though they tend to be touted as "compacts". The biggest difference between the 229 and 250 is the size of the 250's grip, which is much more comfortable.

You are correct sir...as the full sized models are comparable to a P226 4.7" barrel...the compacts are comparable to the P229 3.9" barrel

Now I own a P250C in .45 (picture below)..LOVE IT!!!...but when compared in overall length to my full size M&P9 the P250 is about a good inch shorter overall...so depending on whether your a glass half full or half empty kinda person then either the P250 is a big compact or the M&P is a small full size

I have a bunch of SIG's, and the only ones I'd consider compact, are the P230's. If I had one of the new P238's, it would also fit that bill. The 220, 225/P6, 226, 229, 239, 245, 250 etc, are all pretty much the same size, and when carried in a holster, you really cant tell the difference.

I know its more a marketing thing than anything else, but I think SIG (and others) would be better off without a "compact" designation, as its often misleading. To me, compact is small, or smaller by a lot, not just a half inch here and there. I have the same issue with Glock's, and never saw the point of the 19's. Even the 26's arent all that small, but there is somewhat of a difference between it and the 17.

The trigger isn't for everyone, but compared to other double action triggers, it's a much easier pull albeit slightly longer. It took me some getting used to but I'm pretty good with it now.

For what it's worth I wouldn't even consider swaping calibers, I would just buy another gun. Buying another frame (bigger or smaller) is pretty cheap at about $70, but thats as far as I would go if the standard (medium) frame was too big for me. I put a Houge handall grip sleve on mine and even with the palm swell it's still comfortable even with smaller hands.

So far it's eaten 147gr Hydra-Shocks and a ton of FMJ without issue. I inherited mine, but at the price point they are at now ( as opposed the the steep price when they came out) I would purchase one. The trigger is just unlike on the market IMO.
