Sentry Home Defense Center
I'm interested in some more expert opinions than my own on the Sentry safe:
http://www.sentrysafe.com/Home_Defen...Defense_Center http://www.deansafe.com/sentry-safe-...se-center.html I know it's not an 800 pound safe with fire rating, etc. but I'm curious to know what others think for it's designated purpose. I'm a new firearm owner and plan to have this safe in my master bedroom--containing one long gun and 1 hand gun--with the "real" safe in the basement. I've searched and did not see much reference good or bad. Thanks for any input. |

If its to just keep out children, guests, etc and not thieves, it should be okay.

It will keep children out. If that is all you need out of it, it will suit your needs.
But if someone broke in they would see the safe and carry it off to break into it at their leisure. If you want to keep your guns from being stolen, you need to bolt your safe down to the floor or walls. It could be easily made better by figuring out where the studs in your walls are and drilling holes through the walls so that it can be attached to the wall. Put 4 holes through the base and attach it to the floor. Would at least make it harder to pick up and carry away. |

I would definitely bolt/screw it down, but it should work just fine.
No safe - unless it's wired into a security system, and maybe not even then - is going to stop a prepared and determined thief. However, this one seems like it would present enough of a challenge to stop your basic crime-of-convenience burglar. I actually have something very similar (in size and purpose), but it mounts inside the wall.

Thanks for the replies.
Yes, this safe does bolt (and I will bolt it) to the wall. I don't believe it has the ability to secure to the floor. |

You should PM the following TFL member OP, a1abdj. He is a professional safe and vault expert. He'll give you the facts about the product you're interested in.
