I have always heard that you get your very best accuracy when you space your bullet .010 off of the lands. I have purchased a new guage to tell me where to seat my bullets for my new M1 Garand (CMP Rifle), And i have found that the bullet is completly out of the case before it touchs the rifleing in this M1. I have been working with Sierra 155g(palma) bullets with 46g of IMR4895. I have always adjusted OAL to what the "Lee" die set calls for, But was shocked to find that i cannot get .010 off the rifleing without the bullet being completely outside of the case. Are all M1's like this? Any help? Thanks CRASH36

I found that Hornady 150gr FMJBT bullets will not come close to the lands either. I just seated them to the crimp groove and used them like that. I used 45gr 4895 and shot pretty high scores with this combination.

It's a service rifle, so don't sweat the benchrest accuracy tips other than case preparation.

47.5 4064, Sierra 168s, and CCI primers in GI Match cases has always done just fine for me. This is .30-06, NOT 7.62 NATO!
