A 1911-22. Keeps the same feel of your 1911's while shooting the 22LR. Better than a kit as you won't have to swap the stuff back and forth.

Additionally- a nice 12 gauge over/under shotgun for trap, skeet, five stand, and sporting clays.

Grab a Sig Sauer P220 in .45 ACP

Or the new Ruger SR22 pistol in .22LR

I do have two .357's; I forgot them in my original post but mentioned them in a following post (they are a 686 and a Blackhawk).

Yes, I am a little light on the .22's. I enjoy the Buck Mark and have considered a wheel gun, mainly for teaching the kids to shoot once they are old enough.

A P220 has crossed my mind, as has the possibility of selling a piece or two, saving some coin, and picking up a Les Baer (probably something like a Concept V or Premier II.

I'm not hugely interested in adding more calibers to my collection. I'm not entirely opposed to it either, but having a few "standard" calibers that meet my needs makes life easier.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone!

"Need" is defined in different ways by different people. Yes, if the utilitarian use of firearms as tools are your only concerns I guess a few standard calibers fullfill your needs. However with a big part of owning guns being just owning guns, I always find needs in all types, and calibers. Even those not as common as many. I generally don't try to make my life "easy" with my hobbies, but more importantly to me I try to make it fun!

What? No black powder?

They're dirty, smokey, slow and sometimes a pita to clean but every shooter needs a touch stone back to our roots. A Ruger Old Army is a hoot and don't tell me there isn't a bit of charm in touching off a replica single shot dueling pistol.

Really, you ought to have ONE anyway.

Maybe a .45 in something other than a 1911. P220, I believe someone mentioned before, might be something on my radar.

The idea of black powder does have some appeal to me, but I bought the Blackhawk to fill my urge for something in an 1800's style flavor (even though it's not 100% true to the SAA design, but you get the idea).

As a fellow Illinois criminal...oops, I mean law abiding gun owner, I can tell you I have the most fun at the range with my Kel Tec PMR-30. 4 mags hold 120 rounds, it is very accurate, no recoil, big blast, and smiles all around for having 30 rounds in the magazine. The gun is a lot of fun! I know you do not have any 22 magnums on your list in an autoloader!

I'll state the obvious...

With all those guns, why not take that $$$ and get a reloading setup? For the price of yet another firearm you could have a really decent way to feed them, and it'll be another hobby in itself.

I actually do have a reloading setup that consists of a couple single stage RCBS presses and a Lee Classic Turret Press kit that I picked up earlier this year to load 9mm (btw, I love the Lee turret press and everything in the kit except the scale; it's junk).

Glock 20C. 10MM. Compensated barrel. About the only fun 10mm that I've ever shot. Won't beat you up like most 10's.

All right, since you like 1911s, and you also have .357 revolvers, I'm going to throw one at you:

Do some research on the Coonan .357 Mag auto pistol. It is based on a 1911, but the handgrip is about 1/4" longer front-to-rear. The trigger is hinged, instead of linear like a true 1911, but aside from that the similarities are many and the differences are few.

Except that it can fire .357 Mag rounds.

There are old Coonans, made in the mid-80s...and then went out of business. A new company bought the rights to use the name and the design, and started production a bit over a year ago.

If you were into handloading, I might say 10mm 1911...but the brass is pricey (and you won't find any laying on the ground at your local range).

Very interesting suggestion. That's one amazing looking handgun. I think I've seen the ads... the ones that say "looking for your first pistol? This isn't it."

Nice looking gun.

Concealed carry is not really an option or else I would say Glock. I used to be a Sig snob for a long time before I converted to the Dark Side. I love my plastic fantastic and I don't really care if it stays pristine.

Since Concealed carry is out, I recommend you consider going upscale. Please do not take that as an insult. You have some nice guns there, but try going semi-custom. If you are happy with your Kimber and STI, a Les Baer, Ed Brown, or Wilson Combat will knock your socks off.

If you want some variety, I would recommend the H&K P7M8. They are getting pretty pricy, but you can go with the PSP which is usually a little cheaper. They triggers are amazing and they are extremely accurate, especially for a compact gun.

Everyone who has shot my Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special absolutely LOVES that gun. It makes everyone look like a good shot and it is such a pleasure to shoot. It has an incredible clean trigger and the gun is built super tight.

For a point of reference, here is what I own:

.22 LR Browning Buck Mark (Standard but swapped to the 5.5" full Bull Barrel)
.32 Beretta Tom Cat (pocket gun)
.357 Ruger GP 100 (6" Stainless)
9mm Glock 26
9mm Kahr PM9
9mm Kahr MK9 (weighed so dang much I bought the PM9)
9mm H&K P7M8
9mm Sig P210-6 (I couldn't bring myself to shoot the 50th Anniversary Edition)
9mm Sig P210 (50th Anniversary Edition)
.40 S&W Sig P229
.40 S&W STI Edge
.45 Les Baer Thunder Ranch Special
.223 Colt AR-15 HBAR
.223 Smith and Wesson M&P Sport
30-06 Sako 75 Synthetic
12 GA Remington 870 Marine Coat 20"
12 GA Beretta A400 Unico Synthetic

I was thinking of adding a .44 Mag Revolver or possible a Desert Eagle with interchangable barrels, but I don't want to deal with additional cartridges. Besides, ammo is EXPENSIVE for those guns. I had a Sig P245 (compact .45 ACP) but I couldn't shoot it worth a darn. I shoot my Sig P229 very well, but I could not group worth a darn with the P245. I have thought of getting a 1911 in 10mm but ammo is pretty pricey on that too. I think I have more than enough for now. My wife certainly thinks so!

Re: The Coonan .357 Magnum 1911s, are there many reports about fit and finish or reliability? If it's well made and runs well I would be very interested.

I agree with the suggestions of the 5-seven, you won't belive how easy it is to shoot at twice the distances you shoot your other handguns... & also the Contenders ( but be aware, the "tenders" are an addiction, once you go there )... but change barrels from 17 caliber to 45-70 in many many different & unique chamberings... they were originally used for shilloette & are very accurate & fun to shoot

one of my most versitile revolvers is a S&W 610 that in stock form shoots 40 S&W & 10mm ( mines also been chambered for 10mm Magnum ) it took 3 times back to S&W, before the gun was safe to shoot when bought new but now it's a super sweet, & fun shooter 10 Mag is about the same as a 41 Magnum, but in stock form, the 10mm is pleasant to shoot, & the 40 S&W seems like shooting a much smaller caliber

the Coonan is an interesting suggestion, as is the PMR-30 ( I have a PMR-30 on my shopping list for Christmas )

another thing you could do, is add some non convetional accessories... I have group ( 22 Ruger, CZ-75, & series 70 1911 ) that have had slide pull knobs & dot sights added, just for range use, ( they certainly aren't tactical with the slide pull knobs ) but this group are certainly fun to shoot

Stephen, no insult taken at all. I've been thinking of a Les Baer for awhile; it's a matter of economics, of course.
