Which Shell
Hello,
I have a Springfield/Stevens 94A 12 gauge. I have been told that it is 50 or more years old. I would like to shoot it. Is there any consideration to what kind of shotgun load I should use with this gun ? Thanks, Phil Last edited by Parmour; November 27, 2004 at 08:57 AM. |

Have your local gunsmith take a look at it before you fire it. Then, as I am sure he will suggest.......try some very light trap loads. You might want to wrap your arms around a tree...holding the gun in front of the trunk! It may not shoot exactly where you had hoped.....but you won't injure your face!

Well....at least wear eye protection
Try light target loads first.

Wow, you'd think they were making brass matchlocks 50 years ago.
When I was a kid, Stevens 94 was one of the standard guns. It would handle a lot more than our shoulders could. And still can, assuming it is tight and not heavily rusted. |

Unless it is marked for 3" shells, stick to 2 3/4 and you should be good to go with about anything.
Like Jim Watson, I begin to feel pretty old when someone thinks that a 50 year old gun is an incredibly ancient antique, maybe used by Julius Caesar. Jim |
