Own Receipe
I am one of those "Neat" freaks mentioned in a post above..
I use a mixture of the following, amounts based on number of shells to clean: 4 Cups of Warm Water 1 Cups of White Vinegar 1 tsp of Liquid Dish Soap 1 tsp of Table Salt I mix this in an old plastic ammo can with a rubber seal and throw in the cases. Shake for roughly a minute and let set for 15 minutes. Repeat this process four times. Remove the shells, rinse and let air dry on a towel, turning periodically for a day or two. I then tumble them with PetCo Kaytee walnut media for about five or six hours. I then do all the necessary stuff to load the brass, once the brass is loaded and ready to store, I toss them back into the tumbler with Corn Cob media for about an hour. I also use Cabela's brass cleaner in the media, shines them up nice with no finger prints. My friends laugh at me but I have the prettiest brass at the range and I have yet to have an FTE or FTF. They have several each time we shoot. |

Definitely finely ground walnut shells will work in your tumbler.

If there was anything that worked better on the worst of cases than vinegar I could not stand it. 15 minutes maximum, if I want to slow down the process I add water. If I want to waste money and good vinegar I can move up to table vinegar, that would take me from 5% to about 15%. F. Guffey |
