Pietta 1858 45 colt r&d conversion cylinder question

Looking into the cylinder chambers, it looks like each one is a tiny bit narrower at the barrel side, like it was bored a certain width up to the last quarter inch or so of the end of each chamber, then it is slightly narrower. Is this normal? I only noticed this the last time I cleaned it.

Mine is same. It serves to neck down from the case diameter to something closer to the bullet diameter, helping to align the bullet with the forcing cone thereby aiding in accuracy.
