I use Herco in my Blackhawk for almost-magnum loads with cast bullets. It'll work loaded down, probably not well if this is for CAS. Have you tried Green Dot? Or Red Dot or Promo? (use Red Dot load data for Promo)

I've used it for years in 12ga heavy shotgun hunting loads (1 1/4 & 1 1/2oz loads) and cast pistol loads. It runs out of steam with jacketed bullets (Blue Dot or 2400 gets higher velocities). It is a somewhat dirty powder with a bit more fouling around the muzzle and cylinder gap but not as dirty as Unique. I still like it. I would classify it as a medium burning powder. For light loads the faster powders will work better in shorter barrels but Herco can do what you want it to do with cast bullets.

I did some recent tests with Herco. .45 Colt Hero Tests . If you are interested. I liked it.

Actually the "GOTO" powder for 45 Colt is Unique, Aprox. 8.5 grains and a 250 grain bullet.
