When to Tumble?
Just a simple question really, when do you all tumble your brass? After shooting, or after depriming and sizing? Personally, I do it after shooting. My logic was that any media that gets stuck in the flash hole will be pushed out when I deprime my cases. I use a Midway vibrating tumbler with ground corncob and a Dillon Rotary Separator. I mainly shoot 45acp and .357, if that makes any difference to anyone.

tumble?
I tumble before depriming. after deprime and size I check the primer pocket. if it's really cruddy I clean the primer pocket with a wire brush I have for that task. It came with a handle but I chuck it up in my cordless drill.

I also tumble before sizing/depriming. The point is to clean the cases in order to run them in the sizing die.

I've been reloading going on 30 years/100,000 rounds, and I've never tumbled my brass.
If it gets dirty, I give it a quick washing in a bucket with lysol and very hot water. |

I de-prime (only) and then tumble. Then I size the clean brass.

Since I knock out my primers separate no sizing,I do just that knock out primers and clean.Have found that by doing that the primer pockets also get cleaned at the same time.Have had no problems with the primer hole getting plugged.I don't like to leave dirty brass sit to long I try to clean about once a week or till I have enough like 200 or 300

Tumbling
I agree with Mike only for 40 years.

Like many others...
I tumble after shooting. My press is a progressive so I have no need to deprime prior to the act of reloading. Bob

I use whatever detergent is at hand. Mainly lysol, but sometimes dish detergent or even laundry detergent. |
