have a ?

hi all. i was wondering if i can take the mauser action from a cz 550 .375 h&h and have it rebarreled to a 300 wby. ive done a little research and found that the 300 wby case was made from the 300 h&h case, which was made from the 375 h&h case. so would this work? or am i way off base here? any and all info will be helpfull. thanks.

You could easily, but why would you

Do it... The .300 Weatherby is member of the cartridge family ultimately derived from the .375 H&H case.. Just get a .300 barrel and shoot... I am running into this same problem but I want a mauser action for a .340 weatherby....

I'd be interested in the old .375 barrel if you dispose of it, but my budget is very limited at this point. I would use it as a blank for a 38-55 Winchester lever action project.

375

Sir;
That CZ action is a fine action and the 375 H&H is all over the 300! You can use the 375 on all american game species with less meat loss that you ever could with a 300 Winchester or Weatherby! You can push loghter bullets with your 375 close to 3000 F.P.S.! You, also, as they do in Africa shoot very small gane animals with very little meat loss! If you are ever going to hunt Brown Bear, Moose or any other large animal here in the states the 375 H&H has it all over the 300s!
I'd advise you to revise your idea about your 375.

yes the 375 is more gun then the 300 is. and no disrespect i dont see how a 375 would do less meat damage then a 300 wby would. jmo. but as ive said i have no use for a 375. i doubt that i would ever go on a moose hunt or bear hunt. and if i ever did , i wouldnt be affraid to take the wby. if a bow can take them down i think a 300 would. and beside that, ammo is way to much.lol ive always wanted a 300 wby sence i shot my friends wby and seen how it does on game.
to each their own.

as i said no disrespect. this is just me.

The 375 is a lower velocity round then the 300 Weatherby, and has heavier constructed bullets, both of which tend to limit meat destruction.

The 300 will do what you want to with it. I don't know about the recoil difference, tho the impulse will be sharper (faster) with the 300 compared to the 375, no matter what the paper value of the two rounds show in recoil. most people perceive a slower recoil impulse as more confortable, even tho it may have more recoil energy, within limits of course. The muzzle blast of the 300 Weatherby will likely be noticably sharper also.
