Zeiss riflescopes

Looking for a scope for my new 30-06, I stopped in the local gunshop. Was thinking of a Leopold Rifleman 2x7, so I inquired with the salesman. He then came out with a Zeiss Conquest 3x9 in 40mm obj. and said look through this. I was amazed how bright and clear a scope it was. I know these scopes are expensive and I was only looking to spend 200-250 for a scope. He then asked, "How much yout think this scope is?" I said, "Probably 600.00." Anyway, He said that Zeiss just sent it to him as a demo and if I wanted it, he would give it to me for 200.00. The only thing is I do not like the rectile. It has crosshairs that meet to form a circle. I guess ok for hunting but not for target shooting. He said for 85.00 he would send it to Zeiss and get the crosshairs changed to whatever I wanted.
Any thoughts?

It might be a shotgun scope, judging from the reticule description. Did you see the original box it comes in? How is it labeled? If the scope is in good condition, an additional $85 spent to change reticules would still give you a sub $300 price on a $500 scope. BUT... do shotgun scopes withstand rifle recoil? Someone else know?

I'd snap it up at that price regardless of the reticle! If you don't want it grab it for me - I'll take it!

I just purchased a Zeiss 3-9x40 Matte Black with Z-plex recticle off Cabelas.com for $449.99. Eagerly awaiting for it to arrive.
