Unbelievable. The barrel threads are 27 tpi and not 28. Waiting on another 7 dollar used barrel, have decided to actually make the barrel longer than original, in the mean time, the cylinder pin is done. Once the barrel is done it will be ready to bead blast and blue. Here are the old and new pins

Thanks, minus my mistake The cost was about 35 and that includes bluing chemicals. With the new barrel, I won't have to shave the cylinder back much so I won't ever have to trim shells, barrel will be on this evening

VERY soon,
finally had time to finish cleaning up the parts. All tool marks have been removed and the parts have been bead blasted and await hot caustic bluing in acetone. Will be running by Meyers tonight to pick up the bluing chemicals. its only about twice the price of that cold blue crap. |

Yes, the acetone serves as both a rust preventer and a degreaser. As long as the parts are submerged, they won't rust, when the bluing tank is the right temperature, they are Taken out of the acetone. It does not leave residue behind when it evaporates and the parts can be blued almost directly

The scalding hot water rinse is the only other thing I do before I submerge the parts

"await hot caustic bluing in acetone" had me confused. It looked as if you were going to try to blue with acetone.

Oops, and of course it's storming so the bluing will have to wait till tomorow

Better ammo
I ordered mine from Natches online a few years ago but you should be able to find plastic reusable projectiles instead of using wax. They just use magnum primers for the propellant but would sure work better then wax. You could set up an indoor gallery in your den. Supposedly the plastic bullets were developed for live fire practice inside of airplanes.

Yep. Check here.
http://www.speer-bullets.com/product...g_bullets.aspx BTW, those are not toys; don't fire them at a person or anything but a safe backstop. I once found out the hard way that the bullet will penetrate a thick newspaper and the back of an easy chair. Jim |

I bet you could run cowboy 38 through that thing, It looks pretty solid
also, on the pic with your barrel, you know you are showing your name, address and even birthdate since I assume that is when your license expires. prob not a big deal, just saying

Not quite my address or birthday, but il probably remove it anyway. The cylinder has minor corrosion and the frame was designed for black powder. The top of the frame is thin by the cylinder gap as well. No way will I chance it. The barrel has a pressure safety as well. If the pressure gets too high from a cartridge with powder, it blows off
