Reliable, affordable chronograph?

..any suggestions on a good, accurate chronograph? Been wanting to test some velocity on different loads....

Chrony F1. Midway has them for about $70. I have used one for several years now, and I don't know how I ever got along without it.

I don't think you can buy a bad one.
I have a Competition Electronics "Pro Tach" that I bought in '87.
I destroyed it in '96 with a sabot fragment from my .50BMG rifle, and they replaced it under their replacement policy for $29.50.
They no longer market the "Pro Tach", but I can recommend their products.

Define "good and accurate"

I use the cheapest Chrony - often even cheaper buying refurb direct; some are said to come with bullet holes - because it's handy and disposable.

I have no reason to think the more expensive machines put their crystals in ovens (can't imagine it on a battery/low power machine) or are otherwise more accurate. I decided more calculator and memory functions along with remote operation wouldn't be worth extra money to me so I stuck with the cheapest.

I do have to discard some shots and wonder about others. I have no doubt the big Oehlers with proof channel offer better accuracy at the cost of extra expense and hassle with setup.
