Lee PPM

Someone cleaned out every pistol powder from our local stores and all that was left is an 8# jug of 7625.

Unfortunately my Lee Perfect Powder Measure doesn't like the fine grains and 'pees' them out the side of the rotor. I've tried various tensions and smearing graphite on the rotor to little effect.

Short of fabricating a powder catch, any ideas?

I use a PPM and when I use Titegroup powder, it does leak a little. I just use the lid from the lee die set box that I am loading as a powder catch. Works for me. I've thought about making some baffles but haven't tried it yet. Some say a baffle will help.

Let me know too

This is an age old problem with the Lee PPM. I've had folks claim that polishing the plastic rotor with fine grit will tighten up the fit so that it won't leak - I've not tried that.

Just make sure it is super fine grit. Don't really want to remove material, just smooth it out so there are no gaps for the powder to slip through. I think most powder measures have problems with really fine powder. My dillons leak a little bit when I use Accurate 2230 and #9 and #5.

Might be time to finally pick up a better powder measure.

If you do pistol primariily, the RCBS Little Dandy, plus appropriate rotor(s) works well. Or maybe a Lee Pro Autodisk.

I put a baffle in mine, made from a piece of aluminum sheet, just 'cause my Dillon SD has one.
It doesn't leak anything, including Titegroup, so maybe it does help.

I used polishing rouge from my Dremel kit on the plastic rotor. I also cleaned off the soft plastic 'wiper' inside and it greatly reduced and nearly eliminated the powder leakage. I may end up cleaning that wiper on a regular basis.

what you want to do is lap the rotor. Lapping with a fine lapping compound (400-600) will mate both surfaces to each other perfectly and it will eliminate any leakage.

I used some diamond stuff I had on hand and from starting the project to lapping to cleaning to throwing charges in takes less than 10 minutes.

I have the regular Auto Disk.
Longshot, H414, Blue Dot, and True Blue readily leaked from mine.

Had an issue with a stripped screw hole on the plastic bin.
I epoxied around the screw holes inside and out.
Then filed the edges where the bin sits on the metal frame down slightly on each side, creating less gap between the disk and the bin.

Have not had leaking powder since.
