Knowledgement and Empowerment is part of my job.

Today, I had a friend stop by my holster shop. She’s interested in purchasing her first handgun for home protection and a fun range gun. She had already spoke to other well meaning friends who gave their opinions on what would be best for her. I explained to her that firearm choice is a very personal thing and as long as she picks a handgun from the major manufactures, she will have a several quality handguns to choose from.

After explaining the pros and cons of 9mm, .40 cal. And .45 cal. she decided that 9mm would be her best choice because, as I explained, she can practice more with the cheaper cost of 9mm ammo. Also with today’s quality ammunition, the 9mm is a very formidable self-defense round. Next I let her handle several of my holster mold guns representing
Glock, S&W, Sig Sauer, HK, Colt, Springfield Armory, and Beretta.

She decided she liked the grip angle and natural pointing of Glock Pistols. She liked both the G19 and G17 9mm pistols but decided the G17 was her best bet with the slightly longer grip and increased magazine capacity.

She left my shop perhaps a little more knowledgeable and hopefully empowered to be able to walk up to a gun counter and make her own choice in picking the handgun that best works for her and meets her needs. As for me, there’s more to holster making then bending leather. It’s about my own love of the shooting sports and sharing it with others

knowledgement isn't a word. just letting you know, so you don't put that quote in your mission statement. people might not take you seriously.

Good on ya randyc. Feel is important, yet the old proof of the pudding will be shooting it properly. If your friend has not yet shot a Glock, that will be her next step in the process.

Hopefully she has a range nearby that will let her run a box or three of ammo through a 17 and perhaps a 19 just to get the feel of the recoil and trigger break/reset. Have her do a little research on the different generations of Glocks with their resultant issues, real or perceived, to make sure the one she gets is the one that shoots best in her hands. Perhaps a bit of class time/training session as well?

I would think, that exercise should provide her with the acknowledgement your assistance empowered (I really dislike that word for some reason) her in her decision. (sorry for the really awkward sentence structure on my part, me trying to be glib... fail)

Will she carry? If so, in one of your productions?

embiggenment is an art rarely bestowed upon the literate.

Oh yeah, it is definitely a word - if it can be spelled and pronounced and used as a form of verbal communication. Now, it might not be accepted in the latest and greatest dictionary approved by the upper elite. Besides, I am almost certain that I have heard that "word" used somewhere else. (Maybe by Festus Hagan explaining something to "Doc". If it was good enough for Festus, it certainly should pass muster here also!

I think it indicates you really enjoy your job.
Or like they say, it's more than just a job.

I find this post rather shallow and pedantic.

randyc74, I appreciate the sentiment, and the effort you put into helping your friend. I also appreciate the point you are making to us.

That said, I hope you have a sense of humor, and realize most, if not all, of us aren't trying to belittle you, but can't resist having some fun with the language.

I am going to have to work "embiggened" into a sentence in conversation sometime soon...

But anyway, randyc74, keep up the good work, and please don't take some of the joking around in here personally.

Well said MLeake. Keep up the good work randyc74. I would add a Ruger SR/SRc mold gun to the mix, but it's your shop.

FWIW I believe embiggenment is the desired result of some modern pharmaceuticals targeted toward older men...

Sorry to be the cynic, but I'm failing to see the point of this, it comes off to me as a shameless plug... "I'm a good guy, see my business info below".
I'm not sure how giving good advice and handling molds is thread worthy?

Vast numbers of us have taken other people shooting on our dime more than once, its not only empowerment, its bona fide experience.
