12ga front-stuffers?

Naturally I've seen Cabela's catalog with double percussion side-by-sides, but it never occurred to me how you load these things 'till I saw a Harrington&Richardson single barrel BREAK action (for the straightline cap nipple).
Am I right in assuming these get a top wad after tamping?

Oh yeah.

You have to use an overwad, or your shot will simply roll out the end of the barrel.

Tks, Mike,
Makes sense. Doesn't that blow the pattern?

"blow the pattern..."

I'm sure it has some effect on the pattern. The type of material (cardboard, felt, or old newspaper) used as the overwad would also have an effect on pattern.

But you really can't get past the fact that you need some sort of overwad.

No shot in the barrel REALLY blows the pattern.

Or you could always go with the 72 cal ball ammo they sell.

LOL,
Yeah the shot rolling out would blow the pattern too!

Man, 72 cal!
Is that what modern rifled slugs are? Jeez, I'd have to put a pillow on my can!
I s'pose an ounce is an ounce, but it must be challenging to hit flying targets with one huge ball.
