A lot of vets have seen the underbelly of the planet we live on, we know what’s at stake. We’ve seen the victims of tyranny piled up. We know that our country, the imperfect USA and all her problems, is still the best country on the planet. We know what happens in the absence of liberty. We have given lots of ourselves in the name of liberty, and many of our loved ones gave all. Some of our veterans don’t even have a grave.
Well put.

And then there are stories like this....

Murderer sentenced to 30 days in jail for killing man, shouting "that's what you get!" after shooting him

Gun owners loose their constitutionally protected rights, while criminals often get coddled by the courts.

Gun owners are demonized for exercising their lawful rights
Gun owners are demonized for demanding criminals be punished
Leftists are praised for restricting our rights
Leftists are praised for light sentencing of criminal behavior

We have lost grip of our culture
We are slipping into clown world
We need to start fighting for our future

NOT the politician but the people that put them in office.

Showing up like you are ready and EAGER for armed civil war, CERTAINLY won't. Any more than the guy all tacticool-ed up, swaggering around a city park waiting for a confrontation with LEOs..

NOT talking about 'that' end of the spectrum but the YUGE, unaffiliated, moderate middle. MUCH larger than either end of the spectrum. They vote, BTW..They don't have an opinion, in a lot of cases, and are watching things like this rally, to help make up their mind in November 2020..

Youtube may by iffy, but it might be more truthful than the "real" news media.

One video cites the VPAP (Virginia Public Access Project) as finding that Bloomberg used $6,272,540 to sway Virginia's election, and stated that Northam got over $1,400,000, and Jeremy McPike (Va Senate) got over $1,600,000.

That's well over $6,000,000 with nearly half of that going towards the governor and a state senator.

I doubt if they'll change their stance, they've been bought and paid for. They're nothing more than high-dollar whores who have become parts of the political machine that's on a mission to undermine the US Constitution.

Then add the media...there was nothing about the rally in Richmond for the media to go off about, so they kept talking about Charlottesville, which had NOTHING to do with anything going on Monday. Last week Northam declared a state of emergency and was all like "we don't want another Charlottesville" and the media just took off with it.

And where was all this violence that was predicted? NOWHERE. But the media kept talking about any little negative thing they could find.

The stage for takeover of the VA legislature was set in 2017 when Democrats flipped 15 house seats. After that election the Republican party cut their losses and abandoned Virginia.

""Looking at the map, the blue district to the left is the one I live in. To the right of that blue blob is the City of Roanoke. Roanoke has a population of over 120,000. The rest of the district is mostly rural. Looking at the odd shape of my district, do you thing there’s something odd?"" copied from above

My state senate district is LONG and NARROW covering parts of 4 or more counties. Cant help wonder why but I guess I know why..

GOP screwed up royally by not having candidates in at least 25% of the VA districts. Cant win if dont have candidate no matter how good/bad the opposition is.

It was set when Eric Holder was Head of the DoJ and led Obama's Gerrymandering effort to flip Republican states thru the courts.

Yes, through the courts.

Aside from challenging some of the districting maps on the basis that they are arbitrary and capricious if you look at some of them, a single "district" looks like a jigsaw puzzle on crack cocaine), something that might be worth some discussion is the "one man, one vote," equal representation thing. In theory, it sounds good that each representative in the House from any particular state represents the same number of people. In practice, it can have some strange results.

Some years ago, my state lost a representative. Before that happened, I lived half a mile from my parents, on the opposite side of the same street. Same town. I was in one congressional district, they were in another. In order to balance representation, the people who made up the maps just carved a small chunk off the westernmost portion of town and lumped it in with a few adjoining towns to the west. The result was that my parents were represented by a congresscritter who probably had never set foot in our town, and who didn't care one hoot what anyone in our town thought about any issue.

I understand how and why it happened, but I don't think it's right.

it would seem that the Va. GOP has already thought of that (re-righting the district maps) and found it also is a losing battle for them.

"imho --- I am thoroughly disgusted at the organizers of the pro-2nd Amendment rally in Richmond yesterday...because they staged the rally on MLK day."

I agree. I had the same thought myself. Another holiday may be less controversial and divisive. Gun owners should strive to gather public sympathy and support and not play into the hands of the left. It was a proper and necessary demonstration, but held on the wrong day.

Why was MLK Day the wrong "wrong day?"

Wasn't he a big supporter of civil rights?

Yes he was
I believe it was entirely appropriate*

Unfortunately, the left has been allowed to take control of MLK's message and twist it towards their narrative. If your average rank & file leftist bothered to actually invest the time/effort into reading his words, they would find that most of his beliefs align with conservative/libertarian ideology as opposed to their ingrained leftist/socialist dogma.

He was an educated Christian conservative family man who believed in individual rights, but also expected personal accountability/responsibility.

Both "sides" try to co-opt his name & message and twist it, but the left has by far been the most successful, again in large part because they've been allowed to get away with it.

*but in all honestly I believe such rallies are largely a waste of time

Gerrymandering is as old as the republic. BOTH sides gerryamnder, some more than others.

Finally, there’s one important caveat to keep in mind regarding all of this, and that is that the scores presented above merely reflect imperfect estimates of the degree of gerrymandering in each congressional district. As such, a state not included among those at the top of the list might nonetheless possess districts that have been intentionally drawn to favor one political party over the other. Political activists therefore shouldn’t assume that places like Maryland, West Virginia, and Louisiana are the only battlegrounds states that matter in this fight, and that gerrymandering is less of an issue than it used to be in states such as North Carolina, for instance.

The day wasn't chosen by the gun rights groups. The date is selected by our good government as Lobby Day when different groups lobby the legislature.

We must keep up the pressure! Some bad bills passed the senate and are on the way to the house of delegates for consideration. Contact your delegates and remind them who they represent.

I wonder how many photo's etc from the Virginia rally will make it into anti-gun literature etc. The fact there was no violence will be ignored. Every time the anti's need a graphic representation of a gun owner wonder who/what will they use?

It pains me to apply either of those adjectives to a holiday celebrating Dr. King and his legacy. King and his followers (at the time) were believers in the 2nd Amendment because government oppression was a very real presence in their lives.

It's not about convincing Bloomberg-bought-and-paid-for politicians. It's about winning-over fence-sitting voters...

Actually, Northam is declaring a state of emergency before the protests even happen. Something about that strikes me as very sinister.
I concur and this shows how far they are willing to go because they are in power.
I also believe this to be true with what we are seeing and hearing. Once laws are enacted it will be nearly impossible in getting them reversed.

Meanwhile, the vast majority of gun owners sit on the couch and complain when someone else didn't stop it from happening. Heck, most don't even vote. They can do all the rallies they want; Virginia is a lost cause.

I think VA has gone back and forth on some of their gun laws over the years. One gun a month is what they want to reinstate, meaning it was once the law but reversed. Plenty of gun laws have been reversed in my state. You can carry in way more places than in the past, and it even expanded further to include being able to store your firearm in locations that were once forbidden and no one ever thought those laws would change. And these are not laws that expired like the assault weapons ban.
