Does anyone have the Hornady series 2 .45acp Titanium Nitride die?

I got this set last Thursday, tried to expand the .45acp brass Saturday morning with no luck. It seems to me there is nothing in the expanding die to make it work. Took it back to Midsouth Shooters Supply were I exchanged it. Opened up the new one in the store and same thing looks like a bare expander. Then the guy tells me that the seating stem is the expander and to put it in the body and I'm in business. Can someone please confirm or deny this claim? Here is a photo album of the set, expander body, and the "expander (seating stem)"

It looks like it could work. What does the expander measure to?

Currently at work so I can't check it. The guy took a .45 brass and it did somewhat fit in, but when I put tye stem in the body there is a little play and doesn't take much movement to make it just drop out....

In my mind if I did press it that way and the brass didn't get jacked up by the fact it's not completely lined up and solid. The downswing would just pull it out of the body.

Can you unscrew the knurled part on the top of the die and drop the expander in from the top?

Titanium-Nitride Coated Sizing Ring

Looks like a normal expander in Hornady's photo. Buy RCBS dies. The Hornady sizing die has a coating that may wear off. Ttitanium nitride coatings are used as an abrasion-resistant surface coating on metal parts

Misinformation. Titanium Carbide is a ceramic...a substance that is even harder than Tungsten Carbide. It is used in industry to coat cutting tools made of Tungsten Carbide. It is not going to, "wear off."

Aside from that, Hornady states that their die sets have an " elliptical expander". I suspect that your problem may be as simple as trying to use the sizer/decapper die instead of the expanding die.

My Series 2 dies in 380 auto came with two different seating stems, one flat and one concave. The seating stems can be swapped out of the seating die depending on whant you need to seat.
I use the Powder through Expander on my LNL so I never worried about the expander. I will take a look at the set when I get home to see if I can clear up your confusion.

Went back today and showed the assistant manager. He seen it wasn't right and checked their inventory he opened 5 sets before finding one that was right. So basically someone at Hornady had a bad day, and there are probably a few more of those empty expander body's out there in the world.

You are showing us the seating stem and what looks like the inside of the seating die. If the solid top die is the one you are showing the inside of.. it is missing a piece. I have that set
