6mm Remington

I guess the only place to find brass with the factory head stamp is gunbroker. I keep thinking either Remington or Winchester will get around to making a run.
Anybody know of a net retailer that has some in stock?

I did find Remington ammo availble for $25.00 a box, so I'm not inclined to pay a dollar, or more, a piece for empty brass that the GB guys are asking.

Are you looking for the old 6mm BR Remington? Have been hoping that Lapua will start making that since it is so close, but not exact to the more current
6mmBR Norma.

No, just the plain old 6mm Remington formally known as 244.

Not very familiar with that one. Check out LongRangeShooter or AccurateShooter and some one might have a stash or a lead on some.

I guess to put it in catagory, it's more of a hunting round than a target round. When introduced, many years ago, it was Remington's answer to Winchester's 243.

It's little more than a 7mm Mauser case necked down to 24 caliber.

For reasons linked to its marketing history, it never matched the 243 for popularity with shooters, however, many old guys like me are still big fans. Because of its slightly greater case capacity, it offers slightly greater velocity (everything else being equal).

My little old Remington 700 with a 22" barrel launches 95 to 100 gr. Bullets quite accurately and is deadly on our smallish central Texas whitetails.

So can you just neck down the 7mm Mauser brass and neck turn if necessary?

Yes I can, or use 257 Roberts brass (also hard to find right now) almost anything really that uses the mauser case. I would, however, prefer to have the correct headstamp for all the usual reasons.

I'm not so desperate that I can't keeping waiting for awhile... I guess I'm just whining. I just can't understand why someone would pay $1.20 for a once fired case when you can buy new loaded ammo for $1.30 a round. As long as they keep paying it the price will stay up.

Supply & Demand verses difficulty to find. Who would have thunk-it that Pythons would have asking prices as high as $2,500.00.

If you do not have a 7mm Mauser or .257 Roberts (A caliber I love) then the headstamp should not mean much.

I have Necked .30-06 to .25-06 and it is easy to tell the difference as I also have a .30-06 which is what the headstamp says.

6mm brass is getting harder to find every year.
As far as 6MM brass goes. I haven't seen a bag of that stuff in a couple years.
Like said its similar brass is 7mm Mauser 257 Roberts & 244 Rem. I'd like to add another to that list. 250 Savage or 250-3000th as the old guys call them.

I do have a 7mm as well as 6.5 swede and some others. I'm not worried about me getting them mixed up, I'm thinking about the younger, less experienced hunters coming up in our family.

If Rem or Win doesn't make a run this year, or PPU start making it, I'll just buy five or six boxes of factory loads.

Like you, I'm looking for it as well...
On gunbroker there is some but.....
There is also someone buying it up to resell...

Also when I called and talked to hornady asking about the next run of 75 v maxes they told me end of jan to first of feb.. I did manage to get a few boxes of the 87 gr before they vanished..

The light and heavy bullets are easier to find.. but with the 1:10 I am limited.

Keep looking and when avalible grab them, as they are obviously made from unicorn tears.

I have necked RP and WIN 8mm brass down to 257R and it works.
I can't neck Norma 7mm down to 257R without turning the necks.

But you can almost certainly neck 257Rob brass down to a 6mmRem SAAMI chamber without neck turning.

I can see some 257 brass for $1.57 each, ouch!

I was lucky and found 17 boxes of Remington 6mm at a local pawn
shop for 10.00 a box. I told the guy I wanted it all so he sold
all 17 boxes for $150. That was 3 years ago and I'm still smileing.
