length of 30/06 case and bullet diameter
I picked up some brass at the range i belong to and it dosent say what the caliber is on the head stamp. The bullet diameter of the case is .307 to .308 and the case length is 2.494 i know .308 is 30 caliber so i`m asuming it`s a 30/06 i just want to make sure.It would help if anyone who reloads 30/06 knows what these diameter and the length is?i compared these to the 308 cases i have and there longer.

Not really. All that headstamp means is it was made by the Lake City arsenal in '67, all GI brass is stamped that way. If it was national match stuff it would be stamped "NM" as well. I have no idea what the headstamp "HXP" means but wouldn't be surprised if it's not European or Asian made stuff. |

2.494" is spot on for the case length of .30-06.
LC is Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Missouri. HXP is the Greek Powder and Cartridge Company in Athens, Greece. The Greek army issued the M1 Garand in .30-06 for a number of years after WW II. Now their rifles and ammunition are being sold surplus here by the CMP. |

Wasn't part two of the OP question related to diameter?
30/06 IS .308 diameter as well. elkman06
