Sellier & Bellot Buckshot any good?

I was looking to place a order at sportsman's guide for some ammo and I saw Sellier & Bellot Buckshot for $30.97 for 100. Is this stuff any good? Should I avoid it? Thanks in advance.

I've been using the 2 3/4" 12 pellet load. It works as good as anything I've shot. Makes nice consistent 10-12" patterns from my 20" cyl bore Mossberg at 10 yds.

For personal defense I wouldn't use it. My HD setup is an 18.5" Mossberg pump. The S&B 00 buck patterns a lot bigger than Federal's "managed recoil" 00 buck. I've heard the higher velocity of the S&B is what causes the wider shot spread.

For blowing watermelons in the field... why not?

Dont know if the sale is still going on, but, S+B 12 pellet 00 buck was/is having a sale on 200 rds for $55 shipped.

Does anyone know a site online to buy Sellier Bellot #1 buckshot? I did some searches through the weekend but every site that lists the shells is out of stock. Sorry about bringing up an older post but thought it would not be necessary to start a new one.

S&B is above average ammo from the Czech. It is actually loaded in my HD shotgun. I've loaded their 1 oz./21 vs. common US 1-1/4 oz./27 pellet #4 Buckshot for a decade before "managed recoil" was ever created to sell less for more by a US marketing firm to police department lawyers. They've been around since 1825.

I've used S&B ammo in various applications and would buy it. Never had any problems.

It's good ammo. Buy a box or two and see how it patterns from your shotgun..

S&B buckshot doesn't use any buffer filler, and only has a cardboard wad, which will typically throw wider patterns than buffered buckshot that uses a plastic wad, or shotcup. The soft lead buckshot pellets that S&B uses will tend to deform more due to not having any buffering and having no protection from the barrel, thus causing wider, more erratic patterns

It is always funny when we retread an old thread. I was reading something today about $14 100-rnd valu pack 12 gauge and had to laugh, then cry -- it was only dated 2003!

I bought a case of it in 1996 and have been shooting on it for the intervening years while training for home defense and I have never had a single issue with it. Buy a couple of boxes and give it a try...I think you will be satisfied.

1 to 2 years ago, I bought some S&B from Cabela's. It was 00 if I remember correctly. It ran fine and performed very much like those above already commented on. Finding #1 is probably going to be more of a challenge, in most brands, from what I've seen sitting (actually not sitting) on the shelves.

Edit: I found the patterning tests I did using the S&B 00 buckshot, in case you are interested.

I will have to wait to get on a newer computer to open that link, this one of mine has troubles(XP). Didn't try the S&B 00's but the #1's did well in a 9 inch circle 40 yards with my H&R.

Arizona, I presume you know that the S&B did exactly what a shotgun should do at that range and at longer ranges you should NOT hit your target with all pellets. Nor do you have to.

Columbia -- thinking that a 9" pattern at 40-yards is good, is not so good.

I agree a denser pattern at around 40 yards would be better. Have a few tighter shooting shotguns but this one I had with me, testing at the time.

Nor do you have to. Columbia -- thinking that a 9" pattern at 40-yards is good, is not so good.
