Anybody have a Tasco ProPoint on a long gun?

I got one on a used Dan Wesson revolver. Neither the gun nor the ProPoint have seen much use. But I'm putting a Bausch and Lomb 4X scope on the revolver and am putting the ProPoint on a Benelli M4.

The advertising specs for the ProPoint proclaim its historical use on slug guns and turkey guns. The M4 is the heaviest gun I own so, felt recoil is considerably lighter than, say my HD Remington 870. I'll likely just use it for walking around some property in the off chance getting a shot at a hog or coyote. It won't be fired much. And I only use 2 3/4 inch standard velocity 00 buck or #4 buck.

With the added weight, although an inexpensive red dot, is that an ok application? Think it can take the recoil abuse? After all, marketing says it's a fine performer on slug guns, etc.

I have seen a red dot mounted on a double.
The double was a rifle in 416 Rigby, the guy
hunted Cape Buffalo.

My Tasco Pro-Point is on a Ruger 10/22 ... where it works just fine .
Tasco is still in business ... I would mount it on the firearm you wish to use it on and if any problems develop ... Return to Tasco for repair / exchange .
Before being mounted on the 10/22 it served on a 357 Magnum Revolver .
No problems with it on either gun .

Tasco

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Tasco is not a manufacturer, but a sort of distributor. They make nothing, but assemble a product line from items offered by other makers.

In the early Tasco days, this worked out pretty well for the consumer, for a lot of the Tasco optical items were produced in Japan. Japan had a very high standard about optical items leaving the country. The tiny oval sticker denoting inspected by the Japanese optical authority was a pretty good indication of an item that would render good service. I've got a couple of Tasco/Japan mini-binos that have seen regular use in a turkey vest and a bow backpack and are still functional.

I've also got a set of steel, 30mm rings that were made in Australia, Tasco branded, and are first rate.

I think those days are over. A lot of Tasco stuff is made in China or elsewhere in Asia, quality can be all over the map I hear. Some of the older Japanese Tasco product lines have a sort of cult following, the Tasco Titan and the Pro-Class 30mm pistol scopes being examples. Your results with the Pro-Point might depend on the era and who actually made it.Good luck.

I feel I should add this. The recoil on a turkey gun can be stiff, no doubt. The alloy framed 3.5" 12 ga guns (Mossberg) can be brutal. But I believe another enemy of a red dot on a turkey gun is moisture. Gobbler chasing in the spring seems to always involve rain and moisture. Were I to want a dot on a gobbler gun, I'd shill out for a good one. Dang shame to get one of the few and far opportunities and expend all the effort to get it, and have your dot crap out.
