I got the email the day the Grendel dropped, it almost got me to buy one. If it had been .223/5.56 or .300 BLK I'd have one on the way. They just dropped the .223/5.56 and I'm now waiting for an 18" HBAR .223 Wylde to show up.

I've put about 10 rounds through mine to get the scope on steel at 100 yards. I'll be honest, the upper is going to take getting used to. While not a big deal the bolt handle isn't in a great position for me.

I don't know if that was the cause, but I had a couple of failures on my part to lock the bolt closed. So the hammer didn't strike the firing pin because it couldn't fall all the way. This is a great safety feature since the bolt lugs weren't fully engaged.

The bolt lift is so short that I find myself lifting too hard. I'm guessing the bolt only rotates 20⁰-25⁰ at most. So that is another thing I'll need to get used to.

I wish it was a right bolt left port, simply because the range was covered with snow. This rifle throws brass just like a regular AR-15, and there is no way to use a brass catcher over the ejection port. I was rotating the rifle 90⁰ to work the bolt and stop having to dig brass out of a snow bank. Having a left port and the possibility of using a brass catcher deflector would be nice in the conditions I was shooting in.

Interesting.

Without turning down the bolt, the spring in the BCG will push the BCG back. Just like in regular AR, the BCG body shields the hammer from hitting FP.

What if the bolt handle is pushed forward without turning down? Or somehow the BCG is stuck forward without the bolt handle turned down? Would it still fire? DO NOT TEST THIS WITH A LIVE ROUND!

If the handle is locked down, the carrier is pushed back which should inhibit the hammer from striking the firing pin, also the entire BCG assembly rotates, but I haven’t really checked to see if the carrier in the rotated unlocked position also hinders the hammer in any way.
I’m now of the assumption that the extra spring helps to prevent an out of battery firing.
I actually like the thing because it was a lazy way to utilize the ammunition and magazines I invested in. I never was going to rapidly shoot the 450bm ammunition anyway.

In order for rotational interlock to work, the throw angle needs to be large enough, or the safety margin is too small. A thin hammer boby can sneak through. Uintah may have similar issue. Their upper came with a free trigger, and they warned against triggers that are not on their recommended list.

To be honest that cools down my interest in the product quite a bit. I'll wait and see more. Thanks for updates. Keep it coming. In the meantime, do make sure the handle is turned down before firing.

When the 6mm ARC version comes out, I'm real interested to know if it can handle bolt action load data, or if it still requires gas gun load data. Bear Creek is not providing that info yet.

It has the same construction as AR 15. I wouldn't go hot with it.

It’s definitely just a regular bolt and barrel extension.
