Springfield 187N by Savage Arms?

First of all Harley i would like to say thanks for all your help on my previous posts. I have another question for u however. I have a Springfield 187N that isn't stiking the shell hard enough. It is a .22lr made by savage arms. Any and all info on this gun would be greatly appreciated. thank you

Looking at the age of the gun there are a couple of things that may cause this.

Worn or broken firing pin. Couul be worn at either end.
Dirt accumulation in firing pin slot.
Worn chamber,

You can replace the firing pin from Gun Parts of West Hurley NY, 914-679-2417 or you and extend the firing pin.

Looking at the scematic, the firing pin appears to be a stamped piece and you can extend the length in a couple of ways.

Remove the firing pin, place on a small anvil, and with a small steel hammer, and a center punch make a mark, a short distance, about the width of a pencil lead, from the striking end of the firing pin. The center punch should be at an angle so the punch end of the punch is toward the striking end of the firing pin, tap the punch enough to make a small indent. Turn the firing pin over, and do the same on the other side. In about the same place.

Now you have created a small hump on both sides of the firing pin. Take a file and make the humps flush with the surface. Replace fireing pin.

This method can be used at eiter end. If it is worn escessively on the hammer end of the pin, you should see and indentation on the firing pin. There could also be a small roll of metal where the hammer strikes the pin.

Place the pin on an anvil, flatten the roll with a hammer and replace.

While your at it. Really clean the gun, especially the bolt and inside the reciever.

This will cause a small "u" shape on the end of the firing pin.
