I usually use black powder so its one in the rifle and three speed loaders.

If hunting with a pistol, its a cylinder full (5).

Years ago when I hunted deer down south of Columbus Ga, I had a 30.06 and carried 10 rounds. 6 in the gun and 4 more in my front pocket. Cant remember the paper company's land south of Cusseta Ga that I worked on but it was fun. Never got a buck in 3 years, but had a good time with friends.

When hunting with rifle, .270 bolt 5 in rifle and belt carrier holds 10 (I believe)
Also carry a .22 handgun with plenty.
And I have run out of ammo! no fun carrying a 6 lbs club on a blood trail!
When hunting with Flint'er 4 reloades in sped loaders, but several more ball's in the day pack. I have pulled loads several times on a rainy day and never use the speedloader's at those times.
When hunting with revolver, 4 in cylinder(hammer down on empty chamber and 4 more in carrier.
When just exploring Gods beautiful creation I carry a .22 auto and will have a couple magazines and usually a box (50) in day pack.

This past season I carried 4 rounds for my 45-70 single shot and 6 rounds for my 7mm Rem Mag. Granted I keep a box of shells in the truck but I want to make sure I'll have plenty with me in the woods although I can't imagine needing more than two shots for a deer.

I usually hunt with my Savage 24F 30-30 over 12ga. I carry 4- 30-30's and 3- OO Buck. By the time I shoot all 7 rounds the deer will have died of old age.

One in the chamber and 4 on the sling. This is when using the single shot. Otherwise what ever the mag holds on my bolt gun(s) and again, 4 on the sling.

Agree with what .284 said as well. Anytime hunting away from home area, I usually have the MTM 50 or 100 box in the truck.

One shot one kill....If you practiced enough, and are the genuine hunter, 2 shells per trip are needed, 1 for deer, 1 for coyote.( because you always see a coyote, and this shot should'nt count against your season total).

3 scenarios I can think of to need more than 5 and up to 20: coyotes, hogs, and trouble. Thus far I've only had to shoot at the first two.

Whatever the gun will hold for rifle, for me thats 4+1 of .270 Win.

And I carry a sidearm for just in case and fun, fully loaded plus one loaded mag in pocket. For my Glock 23 that's 27 rounds of .40 S&W and for my Para 1911 that's 15 rounds of .45 ACP.
