Chote Top-Folder.. Help with reassembly

Hello all, I'm usually a lurker, all the way back to the old board . I took my Choate 870 top-folder apart some weeks ago for some modifications, and for the life of me, I can't figure out which way the little spring in the buttplate goes onto the pin. I feel quite dumb, but I cannot figure out how to tension it so it pushes the buttplate in the right direction upon unfolding. Pictures would be great if you have one yourself. Thanks!
