There Are No Rights In The United States

Amendments are ideas only. Amendments should really be called privileges because that's what they really are. Just ask the 110,000 Americans of Japanese decent that were imprisoned in 1942 by Franklin Roosevelt's Executive Order. How did those rights work out?

Compare our country to other super powers like the old USSR and China and tell us that our country sucks. Yes, over the years we've gotten into the grey area of the Bill of Rights, but for the most part we've upheld it pretty well.

We tried to compensate the Japanese for the internment camps. The fact that you're able to criticize the government is proof that our BoR still applies. Too many people take those rights for granted.

The Bill of Rights is a list of laws and rights, not a law of physics. They can be broken, just be thankful we live in a land that at least tries to right the wrongs.

BTW, look up the Alien and Sedition Act if you think infringing on the BoR is a new fad.

They may be ideas but they're ideas a whole bunch of people believed in strongly enough to pick up their privately owned rifles and fire on troops of the legitmate Government at the time while carrying flags the read "Don't tread on me." That's much more than just an idea.

They had their rights vindicated in a case called Korematsu. It didn't do them any good, but they ensured no one else would be subjected to the same internment going forward.

As gun owners, we have to fight right here and right now. All we face is a little temporary irritation at being called names by our political foes. The rights at stake for our progeny are forever.

I appreciate the sentiment but we are trying to cut down on posts and threads that just express outrage of one sort or another. The OP isn't substantive. Sorry.

Closed.
