I found one of those roll pins once. I had to build an entire AR so it would not be wasted. Terrible thing to waste.

Be sure to have even solid support for the receiver trigger guard fitting when you drive that pin in. Some manufacturers use a spring-loaded pin that does not require driving a roll pin, if your receiver trigger guard has a hole on only one side it is probably that style.

Do not drive the roll pin into ANY hole that is not a through hole, Not ever!!
Driving a roll pin into a blind hole.....???? Now how do you get it out? OK. I'm talking about the holes in the lower receiver here. The front hole behind the mag well is not a through hole. We do not put a roll pin in that one.It gets a spring loaded plunger. It has to do with opening the trigger guard for winter . Only the rear through hole gets a roll pin. If you messed up and drove the roll pin in the blind hole, don't get all excited, and don't get ut a bigger hammer or start drillng holes!! Ask me and I'll tell you how to fix it without harming your lower. Back to your question. Its not convenient for me to measure at the moment. But I can tell you its metric. And I can tell you a millimeter is approx .0394 inch. For now,we can call it .040. I think its a 3 mm dia roll pin. Length? Measure the width of the receiver at the hole.If you measure it in thousandths (inch)with a caliper, divide that by .0394. You might get a number about 18mm An 18 mm length pin ought to be about .709 long. A touch shorter is good. Measure to confirm . Your local hardware store might have a stainless one that size. If you have to order it from Midway or Brownells or or ???,I suggest you get a kit of the little springs and pins that go flying. Might cost you $10 But when you lose an extractor plunger and spring or a hinge pin detent plunger and spring, you will be glad you have the spares. |

There are folks who in good faith, attempt to answer that question. And then there is the third kind. They resemble flies, both in their choice of diet and the way they can be annoying. The sort of person who has nothing to bring to the table, but complains about the food. ARs are the topic. Roll pins are the topic. Building ARs is the topic. I am not the topic, neither is my coffee. I suggest that you and the horse you rode in on go work on developing a deeper, more meaningful relationship. And as a gesture of hospitality,I offer you my undergarment to snack on during your journey. |
