What manuals do you have?
Free online data is available from all the powder manufacturer's. If you can't find 53gr data, use 55gr data. As always, start low and work up. |

What powder are you using?
I havent used a 53 in a while. Last time i loaded one i got data from the hodgdon magazine/manual. It had data for a 53gr sierra i think. I started with 10% less than the starting load for H335 and ended up at the starting load IIRC. Check the Hodgdon website. They have data there. Last edited by droptrd; March 26, 2013 at 06:53 AM. |

In this case since you are using a major manufactures bullet that does their own testing, I would go with a Hornady manual and check the powder manufactures site and compare.
I would do the same if I were using Speer, Sierra or Nosler. For those that don't, like Remington, I tend to go to Lyman. The Lyman 49th is a good one to keep around anyway. The Lee manual is okay but they don't perform their own testing. They reprint others results. |

The Lyman 49th is my go-to data source for most of my loading. It should give you all the load info you need for that bullet. Heck, I'd just use load data for 55 grainers.

I would get a Hornady book, Lyman 49th doesn't have data for CFE 223.

I started using that bullet last spring and it's a great bullet. I shoot it primarily at 500 meters and have no trouble hitting a 12" plate and I think it'll run further than that. I use Ramshot TAC only just because I standardized on that powder and have a lot of it on hand. Ramshot Terminator would likely give better velocity with a bullet that light.
All loads with weight matched LC cases, Wolf primers and a very light crimp with a Lee FCD. These will shoot an average of one inch in a Stag 3G upper. 26.2 grains TAC, average velocity of 3100 at 36 degrees. same loading averages a velocity of 3161 at 83 degrees. 24.9 grains TAC with a 55 grain soft point averages 2880 at 83 degrees. |

From the Hornady 9th edition:
53 gr V-MAX COL = 2.240" Win SR primer CFE223: 25.6 gr - 28.0 gr MAXIMUM

Alliant powder recomends to use the load for 52 gr serria bullet using reloader 10x and also said to start a little lower they said that will get you real close on the 53 gr vmax
