.454 loads

Have any of you found a load for the 300 gr xtp mag that minics the speed of factory hornady ammo. it needs to be with h110. i am shooting this out of a m83 premier and a puma 92. the factory 300 will chrono 2k from the puma. i have been shooting 30 gr of h110. i have not chrono'd the reloads yet.

thanks for the help.

The fastest I've been able to push the 300gr XTP mag is around 1,700 fps through an 8" barrel. And it hit all over the place. 3" groups at 75 yards was the absolute best it would do at those speeds. 30 grains of H110 is really the max in my gun (revolver), I see excessive pressure signs after that. And if its not hitting accurately, whats the point? That said, you will not likely be able to achieve the same velocities as factory loadings with handloads. I assure you that they are not using a powder that is available to us to achieve those numbers.

I'm using 30 grains of 296 (similar if not the same as H110) under a hornady 300 grain xtp.

I'm not overly impressed with the accuracy, at first I thought it was me so I bought a box of factory to compare, and its my loads. I suppose its accurate enough to hunt with within 50 yards, but I'm not pleased unless its living up to its full potential.

Not sure what I'm gonna try next, probably start backing that load down to say 28 then 26 grains, if it doesn't tighten up the same or close to factory I may switch to 2400 or something else.

my freedom arms likes this bullit i think my puma does also. i have 300 rounds of primed brass ready and want to do a batch load. i am going to chrono 29gr 30gr and 31gr tomorow and see what i get. i just wish the 260 partitions were cheaper.

ok, factory hornady 300 xtp. 1973 fps average. from my puma lever gun.

31.5 gr h110 same bullit. 1965, 1982, 1976 fps

i think we have a winner, with no pressure indications at all.
