Concealed Carry for ASP Batons

Do any of you guys carry a ASP baton concealed?

What kind of holster can I get to carry concealed?

Any other tips on on carry ASP batons concealed?!

If you're going to conceal it I'd just stick it in the holster it comes with, wear it on your waist and drop a shirt or sweatshirt/sweater over it.

Be advised that many states have laws and licensing requirements for
both the "ASP" and "PR-24"/ "PR-21" batons. I know this won't come as a
surprise but unlicensed possession of these weapons by non law-enforcement
is a felony in good old Calif. and even law enforcement officers have to qualify annually with a certified instructor to carry this weapon legally in many states. I am not sure which other states have similar licensing regulations but there are big liability issues involved with these weapons and one really needs to cross the "T"s and dot the "I"s in your state. I've never had an issue with carrying it inside the waistband, but I am fit and it rides nicely that way. It would be in the front, around 1:30 and angled to fit into the "V" of the pelvic area.

Another option is to look for something in Kydex that will keep it from sliding down your pants. Depending on the length, you may be able to pocket carry it.

Depending on your training to use said baton, you will want it placed according to that and what's most comfortable. Then find a sheath system, or someone to make one.

I recommend you get some training on how to use that thing if you haven't already. When I went through a course for the first time I realized how easy it was for someone to take one from you and beat your butt with it. I had a holster for it that went horizontal on the small of my back, but I'm sorry i cant recall the brand. Nylon, needle and thread also works wonders if you have time to spare.

I would but my state doesnt allow it, only open carry of a baton, which looks funny lol

Tennessee used to have a permit system, similar to their CCW permit, for batons. When I asked one of the instructors who was qualified to teach the course (but hadn't dealt with it for quite some years), he found they discontinued the program.

So in Tennessee you can be trusted with a gun, but not a short metal club

A couple of issues that have not been hit on yet. Pun intended sarcastically.

First off, while an ASP, and other batons are considered a less than lethal weapon, it can be very lethal if not used properly.

Second, I cant remember exactly how many hours of training I went through on the few different impact weapon, but it is extremely strict, or is here at least. It covers how to deliver a strike, and more importantly WHERE! Where you strike someone can make a difference between it being a less then lethal weapon, or a deadly weapon. As to using one for subject control, I would not advise a non-LEO to try using an ASP for that either, since in some states there is not a citizen arrest law, and also if you have defended yourself, perhaps seeking safety may be a better idea instead of trying to hang on to someone who may want to fight.

Here is another non-firearm posted topic, but in general, I'd suggest the 360 degree polymer type holders. They can be fit with belt loop or paddle styles.
I like the ASP airweight Lever-Lock 21". It's light but still able to work well in less than lethal situations. I also like the glass breaker add-on & the DeSantis Nemnesis pant(BDU type) holder. It has the same sticky material & holds the ASP baton in place.

They are not legal in Illinois and the CCW law that we've been working on won't cover it - in fact some representatives insisted that the term "weapon" be replaced with "firearm" because they didn't want to open the flood gates to saps, blackjacks, batons and various and assorted bludgeons.

I wouldn't use one anyway for fear of getting shot.

Never bring a baton to a gunfight.

Consider no holster with it tucked in your waistband to that it follows the crease where your leg meets your abdomen.

If I was not an officer I would not want to carry one for protection. yes as an officer because its just one more tool on my belt and something to go to before going to lethal use if not having to but other than that, I wouldnt want to have only a baton at a gunfight plus it would be very hard to conceal and just a pain in the butt to have on all day. And like anything else going to a class or classes to know how to use this correctly would be a must or just carry a big stick.

I called isp today to ask if there were any limitations to carrying anan expanable baton and they told me no limitations, doesn't have to be concealed. If any if you want validation the number is on the Illinois state police website
