For the Dillon RL550 and XL650

Dillion had introduced a new add on for the 550 and I think soon the 650 presses.

These is a new pin for the linkage. It has a grease zert on the end so you can grease your linkage much easier now. The also redesigned the linkage pin to incorporate a spiral flute design to distribute the grease evenly.

When I talked to the Dillon guys they said it wasn't in the catalog yet. But, if you called them and asked for it they would sell it to you for aprox. $40 +Shipping.

Is that shiny spot on the link a vent hole, or what?

My 650 came with those parts.

The first couple hundred pulls on the lever did force a small amount of grease out of that little hole, but it has stopped now.

Back in early 2008 I took my RL550 apart and lubed everything. I didn't have any holes in my linkages and I asked Dillon why the 5/64" hole[s] in question where there. I was told they were to enable to greasing the linkage without disassembly.
Obviously the new grease fitting in the shaft is the way to go.

I'm a little ashamed to say that I've been loading on my 550 for years and have never lubricated this connection! 1,000's of rounds!

Every few thousand pulls, maybe. Depends. In a damp/humid basement, reload 5,000 rounds every couple weeks, only use it once a year, etc, etc.

If it is in the spare room and one reloads 2,000 rounds a year, probably every 5 years.

I had an upper pivot arm seize up. Had to disassemble the press and clean up where the arm had galled. Lubed everything up and reassembled.

So you have a choice, you can lube now or disassemble later. All the pivot arm connections need some lube. My oldest RL 550 isn't drilled for grease. My newer RL 550 is drilled. I have some thought to drilling out larger and tapping for a grease zerk. A lot cheaper solution than $40 + shipping.
