Gun case pattern?

I've decided to make a leather case for a rifle which has a side mounted scope and won't go into a regular case.

Any ideas where to get a pattern or am I going to have to use my typical newspaper and duct tape pattern that works for pistol holsters?

Also, any idea as to whether to use ties, snaps or wooden toggle closure? Snaps work well for holsters but this gun weighs about 10 pounds and I doubt they'd be sturdy enough.

I'm thinking of making it in two parts, fore and aft, rather than using the entire piece of leather trying to eke out a one piece design.
