If it doesn't, with that barrel, you can probably just lean forward and tap it on the head!

Set up a few cans about 1m away on each side and see how far the muzzle blast sends them.

Yup....it's a lowly DPMS LR-308.

The brake is very functional....yes it's noisy but I've shot many rifles (and handguns for that matter) with them and always wear double hearing protection. The rifle didn't recoil all that bad without it but now it's less than my AR 15 and I'll find out today how well I can spot my hits with it.

Speaking of spotting hits....The scope is a Leupold VX3 8.5-25x50 with side focus and the varmint reticle. It's probably the second clearest scope I've ever owned.....second only (very slightly) to a Swarovski that I dearly loved but traded for a few guns. Let's just say that the view through the scope is extremely clear and bright.

The trigger has been upgraded to a JP 3 1/2 pound single stage that has adjustable sear engagement and over-travel. My gunsmith had never installed one before but he said that it was one of the nicer AR triggers that he's messed with.

Initial load development has not been that great. Groups have been hovering around the 1.5 inch range. But the general consensus is that after you get 100 or 200 rounds down the barrel it will settle down and it appears to be headed that direction. I've only got 60 or 70 rounds through it so it's almost there. And my DPMS bull 20" AR 15 is incredibly accurate so I'm confident that the 308 won't be far behind.

While the DPMS line of AR-15s seems to be considered entry level, my understanding was their AR-10ish rifles were pretty well thought of.

I could be confused. I usually am.

It weighs quite a bit....Just the rifle weighs 11.25 pounds. Add a little for the brake, a little for the scope and rings, a little for the bi-pod and add some for the 45 caliber 230 grain fmj's I filled the stock with and it's plenty heavy.

I didn't build this to lug it around....just for fun.....mainly shooting off a bench or prone. I'd like to be able to sit behind the trigger of this gun all day and not grow weary of the recoil.

I shot it a few times today but didn't get any target work done. It was cold and I was at the range by myself....perfect I thought. Then while shooting the second group one of the shots hit the upright metal rod in my target stand effectively ending my shooting for the day.....with that rifle any way.

So since I brought my 16" Hbar DPMS to shoot a little I finished the short time I spent at the range systematically killing the targets I had set up for that rifle.

How was the recoil? I bet non existent in that heavy of a rifle.

If I didn't blink every time the gun goes off I'm sure I could see my shot @ max power...so yeah, recoil is ridiculously light for a 308.

as it turns out it shoots great....It took a couple hundred rounds to get the barrel to settle down but I've got it shooting like a champ....It likes 155 grain Amaxes and 168 grain Sierra Matchkings.

Here is a typical 100 yard group....not match winning by any means but I'm happy with these results.

It turns in some really nice groups sometimes too.....

Here's one with the 168 matchkings and varget....

and a decent one with the 155 A-max and some WC844 surplus powder....

Other than the trigger (which I changed out to a JP) I am extremely happy with this rifle. It has been 100% and as accurate as I could ask for from a basically stock rifle.
