Threads on the Saiga?

Hello all, I recently purchased a saiga 223 and I've read others state that there are threads underneath the shroud. I haven't taken mine off yet to find out for myself. My question is what is the thread ratio? Will a standard AR birdcage fit on it or would that require further modifications? Thanks!

I could be wrong on this but I'm positive that Saigas and the like use different threads than western rifles, meaning an AR birdcage would not work.

I believe the Saigas are threaded 14x1 LH (screw on counter clockwise). AR's are 1/2-28 RH.

Some Saigas had threads.
My 5.45 did not. In any case, I removed the stock front sight tower and simply replaced it with a surplus Bulgarian one. This had the 24mm threads to fit the AK74 muzzle brake, which works magnificently.

Most Saigas will not have threads under the muzzle shroud. If they do, they will be 14x1 LH. If they do not have threads, they are pretty easy to cut yourself with this kit from CNC Warrior:

I watched a few Youtube videos and had no problems cutting my own threads.
