Woohoo! Twelve days off!

It is so nice to work at a State University,,,
We get off at Noon today and I have the next 12 days off.

I just purchased close to $600.00 of handgun ammo,,,
I'm hoping to be able to get to the range on some of those days.

It's just me and my two cats,,,
I anticipate a lot of time watching old movies.

I'm going to gut my spare bedroom and turn it into a hobby/gun room,,,
This vacation time will give me the opportunity to get started.

Anyways, I wish you all a happy holiday season,,,
Do something constructive,,,
Do something fun,,,
Or both.

Aarond

I have 16 days off :P

Saw that Classic still has the SKS' on sale for $300 and I'm wondering whether to order one and take that time to clean out the cosmoline.

Ah--Stillwater. A college town that actually gets quiet on the weekends.

Where do you shoot? I don't remember any ranges when I was there--although I'll admit I was sort of busy with school at the time and not really thinking about shooting much.

I have 13 days off (including today) but I will probably get called in at some point during the break. Likely at the most inopportune time.

You guys get time off, but I get to herd my two boys for the next two weeks. Oh, well! Guess we'll have to go to the range!

Yep but in my case there's not enough money to do anything except laze around the house.

Hawg. When you've got the money, you don't have the time. And, when you have the time, you don't have the money. But, RELOADING is an alternative. Now, I have lots of ammo but no energy to go "un-load" it. Life goes on---until the end.

I'm happy for anyone who gets 12 days off in a row If I ever get that opportunity, I'd be doing a lot of shooting. The way my job schedule, family schedule and gun range schedule go, I usually have two practical days a month to shoot. Have fun !!!

Retired is like a long underfunded vacation. Having been poor so long I have become good at it.

Aaron, cats are the absolute best pets. If you leave for a week or so, just put out plenty of food and water. Clean cat litter and go bye bye. When you get home they're probably thinking.."who us that guy?" Have a great time and Merry Christmas! Hope you get to shoot a bunch.

First year I ws retired - I equated it to saying something inappropriate at work and being sent home w/no pay .

It all changed when SS kicked in & I again had a steady "paycheck".

Retirement HIGHLY recommended, if you can swing it. I often say to people out and about who may be 'helping' me..take your time, I'm retired, I don't even know what day it is'..

USN pension, SS, wife's too...medicare(lots less $ for medical care), Tri-Care for life for the other 20%, free Rx..no complaints..just need $500 or so for my next 'toy' purchase.

When I was still working my schedule for the last 8 years was 5 on, 2 off, 6 on, 1 off. We also got paid holidays, we just didn't get them off. I was working for a food company and because of the ammonia refrigeration and 5 steam boilers someone always had to be present, always. Also I was working 10:00 pm to 7:00am and couldn't get off that shift.

Been retired on SSID since Feb 2015 and it was a real adjustment. Especially on those things one wanted to do and just couldn't physically do it any more. This is when I took up shooting again and reloading. this past year I have even started bullet casting and enjoying it all. Now if I could only find an outdoor place to shoot anytime the desire struck instead of having to pay $20.00 hr to go to the indoor range I would be in utter bliss!!!

Retired here too and . . .

I'm going on five years retired. Still do some theatre work for local university on a temporary basis. One of the first things I did when retired was buy a life time membership at the local range. Can shoot as much as I want. Usually make it there once a week, but sometimes more. Life is good.

USNRet, there is but the closest one to me is 2.5hrs. away. Not something I'd want to do every other day, or even once per week.

All the local gun club ranges are also only open weekends and maybe a day of two each week.

That is way too bad! In the Twin Cities we have Bill's Gun Shop and Range.
https://www.billsgs.com/range/
If you don't want to go to the site they charge $20 to shoot but you get your lane for however long you want it. No hourly charge. Plus Monday's are "Senior Rate" days and you can get a lane for $10. Still not as nice as having a relative on a farm but way better than $20 an hour.

Bill's has branched out to the Fargo/Moorhead area...I wonder if they'd open a branch in Wisconsin?

Good luck.

P.S. Just to make us all super envious a friend of a friend resides on a farm in rural MN and he can just go out on his back deck whenever he feels like it. He's got gongs set up at 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards and shoots whatever and whenever he feels like it. The only time he's really 'down' is if we get a blizzard that covers up the gongs but they melt out pretty fast.

No kidding..when I win the lottery(gotta buy that ticket!!), I'm going to buy some land outta town and build a range like the one Hickok45 has...

Well- getting close to the end of those wonderful 12 days off eh?

I - on the other hand - am still retired and have more days off ahead of me !

Ok - well - truth is, we have rental property and one of our tenants moved out the beginning of the month.
That means we have to do all the repainting & cleaning....

Plus - this time around the floors need sanded and refinished...

So much for that gloat eh .

If I ever get back up that way someday, I'll have to at least check out the one that allows walk-ins.
