Does anybody have one of these, and what are your opinions?

IIRC that .58 rifle was called the Buffalo Hunter.

Even with the short barrel you do not lose much velocity. You do lose the long sight radius but gain in portability (lighter weight and shorter length) especially around & in vehicles.

I've got one and it shoots great and groups well with ball and Maxi-balls. Hunting load for me is 110 grains FF and a Maxi-ball.
