R. lee in his book on modern reloading discussed crimping as a means to do just that, to prolong, then he went into bullet hold and release, then there was that other factor.

He claimed it did not take long for the pressure to pass any benefit of the crimp. Me? I want all the bullet hold I can get knowing it does not take long for the pressure to exceed anything I can put on the bullet in the way of a crimp to hold the bullet.
