possible 1901 H&R
I have an 16ga single shot H&R that has 1901 engraved on it.is this really a 1901 antique or does the 1901 refere to the date of patent of the model.i know its not the year H&R was founded because they were found in 1861

It is likely the year introduced, not necessarily the year made.

FWIW, a gun made in 1901 is not an antique under federal law, which defines an antique as being made before 1899.
