Small primers v. Large primers for .45 acp
Hey guys, my question is why do some .45 acp brass have small primers and others have large primers? I even have some of the same brand brass that has both sizes.
Do I need to adjust powder loads between the two? |

So far, I do not know of anybody who is producing different pressure-tested load data for the two different primer sizes.
I do know that a lot of people are using the same powder charges with both. Whether accuracy differs when primers are different sizes I have not read, nor determined by experiment. SL1 |

There probably is a few feet per second difference between loads. I use the same load with both large and small primers. I don't see any difference on paper or feel. I'm also using a fairly fast powder (WST).

I am almost certain they do it just to cause me Angst.
I have not read or noticed any difference in what type of primer is used. I have a nice bag of them under the bench. Maybe load them if LPP get hard to find. Other than that I might trade to some one who likes to only stock one size pistol primmer. Actually that's probably the reason we see them any way. Manufactures are trying to shave a couple cents off the manufacturing cost by ordering a bigger volume of SPP's Usually if they do any thing thats not a performance or safety issue. it money related. |
