Looks like those really high handlebars that they mount on Harleys round here.

Thats a nice bull Elkman.

I too am hoping to fill my tag next week........but, since I just had my appendix removed yesterday (that was a fun trip to the E.R. ), I don't know that I will be up to a whole lot of hiking up and down the mountain. Maybe I will get lucky and have one walk into camp while I am minding the fire

Congrats.

I bet it was a bit of a chore sneaking across the flats there.

Excellent Cornbush.

Personally, I think it's awesome that elk herds in general, are exceeding area quotas almost throughout the west. People just have to take the time and put the money out there to get some.
Just to clarify: It is not necessary to pay an outfitter to hunt your/our public lands. Just gotta commit the license price and put in the time to do it.
At a little over 500clams,,anyone can hunt a Rocky Mountain Wapiti in Wyoming.

I have 3 in my freezer right now. probably 250lbs burger, 40lbs of cube steak, 30lbs to can(later), 75lbs breakfast sausage, and at least 25lbs of premium loin steak,as well as some roasts. Pushing 500lbs of clean, lean, healthy protein. Maybe even more..Yummm

Im pretty happy with the way Elk herds are doing, wish the deer would do the same
Ended up with about 350 to 375 pounds of meat off that bull.
We figure he was around 800 or so on the hoof.
He was the biggest bodied bull I saw come off the mountain, took up the full width of the truck bed cut in half.....

Had a visitor the last night in camp, think it was a small lion, maybe 100 lbs.

Here is what about 75 to 80% of the area we were hunting in looks like.

Here is another one just because it was already resized.
