Where can I buy the square military protractor?

You know the old clear plastic one with the 1:25K scale in it.
Or even the newer improved type that are round. If I had one of these land nav would be a snap for hiking and such.

For that matter most of the topo maps I've seen are 1:24K not 1:25k. Are 1:25k maps even available easily for most area's? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Sigarmed,
Try Brigade Quartermaster for the new commercial round protractors.

You can put UTM grids on your USGS topo maps by using a straightedge and marking the blue tick marks on the edges of the map. Just lightly mark from one side to the other, matching up the blue tick marks and you'll get the 1000 meter UTM grid.

There are some 1:25,000 maps available, but the difference between 1:24 and 1:25 is small enough that it shouldn't take you long to be reasonably accurate with the old MK1 MOD 0 eyeball and the 1:25 protractor

HTH
