Tactical Shottie Optics

I want to build another self defense/tactical 870. I will eventually be purchasing a Police model 870. I know I will be adding a Surefire Forearm, a Mesa Tactical high-profile ar stock adapter, 4 or 6 shell holder, Vltor Modstock, Hogue AR grip, Single Point Sling, Vang comp saftey and shell follower, and some form of optics.

My question is about the difference between the EoTechs and the tritium/fiber optic holo sights from Meprolight and Trijicon. The Mero/Trijicons don't use batteries and have little or no moving parts. The EoTechs are battery powered but seem to be very good sights. Why do the EoTechs seem to be so popular and which of these mentioned would be best for an 18" tactical Shottie.

Eotech's are great because:

1. For what you get, it's a pretty good price.
2. Tough. Will put up with heavy recoil, bumping around, being dropped, etc.
3. Easy to use: put the dot on the target, for faster target acquisition use the larger circle
4. Some models are compatible with night vision devices.
5. It's tacti-COOL, man!

I love my eotech 551; and it would be great for the kind of shotgun you are describing.

As for the trijicons; I've heard good things also. I assume you aren't talking about the ACOG's. One big difference between the eotech and the small trijicons is that the eotech sits up higher. Depending on what kind of cheek weld you want, this could be a good or a bad thing.

Yep the EoTechs look to be very tough. The metal shroud around the unit does offer a severe advantage over the other holo sights. No I'm not talking about the ACOG for my shottie. That would be a mismatch. It would offer no advantage and make using the shottie for its intended role, CQB, a real chore. I'm talking about Trijicons 0 magnification holo sight.

If you want economy, get the $50 panoramic dot sight from page 99 the CDNN catalog.

It's a pretty neat little compact multi-reticle reddot for the money. Brand is "Target Sports". My Saiga-12 is wearin' one...
