6.5x55 semi-auto custom
Just an idea I had. I really like the cartridge and would love to have it in a semi-auto. What would be a possible route. DOn't want to buy an AG42 and use it. SOmeone said take a 260 Rem BAR and rechamber, but I don't think the case length is correct. The BAR goes up to 30-06, so if it uses the same action I guess it would.

It is totally possible, but ballistically you won't gain anything over a 260 Rem or 6.5 Creedmoor.
Reaming out a 260 Rem BAR barrel is a possibility, as long as you put it on a 30-06 length action (longtrac). Another option is rebarreling a Rem 7400 type rifle. All of these options will cost you more than an AR-10 style rifle in 260 Rem/6.5 Creedmoor. Sure would be a sweet recoiling hunting rifle though, a semi auto 6.5x55. Jimro

Why no AG42? I have one and love it. The only downside is the fact that the cartridges get seriously dented when ejected. Other than that, it's a sweet, accurate gun.

Well, I am watching a few auctions for them at the moment. I heard they are a lot more expensive than other milsurp semi-autos, but that isn't panning out at the moment. If they aren't too expensive I may pick one up. I'd really like something a little lighter than a military rifle though. If I can just pick up a used 260, ream it and go, that may be the ticket. $90 a magazine is steep though.
